rock star: supernova
i'm addicted to this show. i think it started because i am in felicity withdrawl and i needed something else to watch. now i am obsessed. i haven't even seen the beginning of the episodes, but i've been watching it loads lately and now i can't stop. i am pretty sure it is because i want to be just like all the women in that show. it's their vocal chords... that raspy androgenously beautiful talent the makes you want to politely yet provocatively murmur obscenities just because. especially the word 'fuck'... so presumptuous and effective and badass.
it's a crappy reality tv show and i totally get excited listening to them all rock out. especially diana, patrice and toronto's native lukas they are among my fav's.
i am singing right now at my computer. i should sing more. and say 'fuck' more.

Abs-
I feel so awkward...
Okay, now that I got that out of the way, the way I've been replacing my compelte lack of "Felicity" is "Quantum Leap." It's not the same. I would recommend "Smallville", due to James Marsters as the villain in upcoming Season 5, but you'd have to wait a while.
Anyway, I'm glad SUPERNOVA is doing it for you. Talk to you later.

P.S. Killer Klowns? Ob-scure!
see, this is the problem with blogs: your meaning gets filtered and misinterpreted... and i think this is an example of something much larger...
i don't actually think i am vindicated or anything. that was me trying to be humourous. i don't think i am anything, that was the whole point of the post. "i am contradition, i am complexity, i am immaterial"... this was me asserting the fact that it is stupid to try to label my own identity.
"i love to you" is a phrase coined by a feminist linguistic theorist named luce irigaray. irigaray seeks for men and women to recognize each other in language as irreducible others. she argues that this cannot happen until women occupy the subject position, and men learn to communicate with other subjects. irigaray believes that "i love to you" is an example of this language of indirection. saying "i love to you" rather than "i love you" is a way of symbolizing a respect for the other... the "to" is a verbal barrier against appropriating or subjugating the other. there is also a lot of essentialist critique of her work. so this was another way for me to suggest that there is both a rampant overassumption in our society and that it is also discontinuous and broken up. it was a call to be conscious of the language we use, of dichotomous thinking, of "the norm". a call to understand that language (i.e. the word "vindicated" for example) is deceiving and incomplete.
being vindicated came up in a conversation with jeremy. i told him basically that i am complicated as a human being and i beat myself up for noting all the time. and that i have a high distrust of the medical profession and the psychologicization (i might have just made that word up) of "illness", the categorization of symptoms etc. so i completely agree with what you said alex. part of the point of the post was to explain that the term vindaicated may simply imply an awareness of the world, of all its intricacies and experiences... that it is possible for a person, indeed probably MOST persons to simply BE and enjoy and love and also to critique what is happening around them, to be angry and upset at the state of things. to be both these things at once is common. it is NOT vindicated. because "vindiacted" is nothing but a construct.
i am very aware of what labels are, how we brand ourselves, how we define ourselves. i study this in school over and over again. cultural studies is largely about identity. we study language and poststructual thought and how this relates to our material world, to the oppression of peoples, to the idea of "difference" etc etc etc. the baudrillard quote ahead of this post about "the real" was an attempt to bring a critique of our conceptual identities and systems into mind when reading, to be aware of our social constructions.
a lot of the time when i write something it is laden with opinion and "truth". and yet it is fictional, (hence the quotations around truth i suppose). someone whom i ise to know in the past used to criticize my writing all the time. i used to write about my emotional state and i would turn it into a story for him. these stories were decorated symbolically with meaning, but the meaning was often uninterpreted, misinterpreted, or reinterpreted, thus producing a new meaning or destablizing what the idea of an absolute meaning conveys in the first place. this is always a risk when writing, when communicating through any medium really.
this was a post about being incomplete and disjointed, and understanding that there is nothing new or wrong about that. i just didn't communicate outright what i was trying to say, and perhaps that inadvertantly cements the whole point. everything you just wrote i completely understand and i think i was saying a lot of the same things, i was just saying them between the lines.
we are bound by language and thus by labels. but many are conscious of this, and this awareness has the potential to be empowering. i would call myself a feminist because i can choose to define that term however i like. it is a subversive act.
in any event, thank-you for your thoughts and love alex. i know you care about me and my well being, and i promise, i am fine. i miss you. heart abs.
we aren't bound by labels.
everyone to a certain extent, yes.
you only are if you let yourself be. all you have to do is change your thinking.
btw abs....i know you were "joking" but i can hear that tinge of belief in your voice.
wo. im high rite now
alex
supernova kicks arse
alex
This band is gonna be a train wreck, no one likes supergroups of b level musicians. I mean INXS replacing a singer is much different cos INXS had a history. Just a bad idea.
INXS in comparison to supernova is a no no, like obviously INXS is like soo way better than supernova in terms of music-wise and history, they are legends. but of course anything that entails loud noises, guitars and hot people does it for me haha. so, like i do see where you're coming from and all but i'm just wasting my time watching 'supernova' from sheer bordom, you know time well wasted.
